Thomas Buchanan
I'm currently developing new works in oils and producing moving images. My practice is based in Adelaide with a strong influence from the built environment and figurative elements. This year I have been engaging audiences in new dynamic works in oils, charcoal, moving images, films and community art projects. I have exhibited throughout Adelaide, and have had shows in Melbourne. I have done Carclew's City Sites projects, Fringe projects, lectured drawing workshops here and interstate and designed the Eden Valley Riesling label for Peter Lehmann wines 2002. In 2007 I was a finalist in the Metro 5 Gallery Painting Award and The Advertiser Contemporary Art Awards.

My work hovers curiously between states. At first glance it seems firmly grounded in the traditions of representational drawing and painting. However, by colliding this mode with performance, video and animation, I manage to work both at the edges of drawing practice and within the traditional idiom.
